5 fantastic games in one. Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episodes 1 & 2. Portal (an amazing puzzle game) and the excellent online Team Fortress 2. You won't find a shooter with this much value anywhere else. Also on the Ps3.
Grand Theft Auto IVGrand Theft Auto IV
Buy new: $49.79 / Used from: $15.55
GTA is still the king. This new game is a technical marvel. Beautiful graphics, a completely open world with lots to do and see. The new multiplayer component is incredible, allowing you to play up to 16 others across the entire map if you want. Also some great co-op missions. An incredible game. Also on the PS3.
Elder Scrolls IV OblivionElder Scrolls IV Oblivion

A fabulous action RPG with a huge open world and tons of side quests. Also on the PS3.
Fallout 3Fallout 3
Buy new: $49.99 / Used from: $45.00
Bethesda does it again with Fallout 3. Many have called this Oblivion with guns, and that's a pretty good summary (the game uses the same engine). Set in a post apocalyptic world with technology instead of magic, this first person action RPG delivers. Also on the PS3.

An awesome open world shooter much like a Grand Theft Auto game set in Africa. Huge world (bigger than Oblivion, Also fun multiplayer with an incredible map editor you won't find on any other console game. Also on PS3.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Game of the YearCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Game of the Year
Buy new: $49.99 / Used from: $39.99
Yes, the single player campaign is painfully short (but so good). It's the multiplayer which will keep you coming back to this game time and time again. The modern day setting is a fresh change from the old WW 2 theme. Extremely addictive and very enjoyable. This game set the bar for fps very high. Also on PS3.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the PatriotsMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Buy new: $49.99 / Used from: $29.69
A great sendoff to Solid Snake, and Hideo Kojimas latest masterpiece. Play stealthy or go in guns blazing! A fairly long single player campaign (LOTS of long cut scenes!) backed up with an interesting multiplayer component that's a hybrid of 3rd and first person shooting mechanics.
Battlefield: Bad CompanyBattlefield: Bad Company
Buy new: $27.79 / Used from: $18.96
The makers of the excellent Battlefield PC games bring the series to consoles, with excellent results. The single player campaign is very worthwhile, but the multiplayer is this series bread and butter. The maps are enormous, the weapons are plentiful and the games destructible environments really ramp up the enjoyability. Also on the PS3.
Resident Evil 4Resident Evil 4
Buy new: $19.99 / Used from: $16.88
Yes, this title is technically a last generation game, but that doesn't make it any less great. The newly added Wii control scheme works well, and it now included the PS2 extra Ada game "Seperate Ways". This game has aged well, and is just as enjoyable now was it was almost 4 years ago. If you don't have a Wii though, the Gamecube and Ps2 versions are just as great.
