Good Equipment, Unreachable Support
I have been trying to reach them for days now regarding configuration change and on luck. After waiting 20mins, the system asks me to leave message, still haven't heard back. Also emailed them couple days back but no luck.
Ooma - great product, easy set up
I have been researching different "home phone" options for quite some time. After college, I never went down the home phone route instead choosing to rely on our cell phones as the basic line of communication. However, recently my wife and I decided it would be a good time to get a home phone. I found Ooma while doing research on Magic Jack. I was about to get a magic jack when I found someone suggest the Ooma device instead. I did a little research and figured I would take the chance. Essentially once you buy the hardware, you get free US calling for the life of the device (or life of the company!).
The house I live in is pretty old so there is only one phone line connection on each floor. I choose this over Magic Jack as it does not use the PC but instead only relies on your High-Speed Internet Connection. I also use a wireless telephone system where you have a Base Unit and several other "satellite" phones which connect back to the base unit. Several phones, one line. Nice and Easy.
I received my Ooma and unboxed it while signing on to the site and register the device. Registration took about 5 minutes, most of which was spent by my wife picking out our new phone number :)
Once registration was complete, I connected everything and restarted my modem, router, and PC. The whole process was VERY easy and the instructions that came with it would be more than sufficient for even the least tech-savvy user.
After restarting my devices, I got the little blue glow of the Ooma device. Picked up my phone and heard the dial tone :) Calls were crisp and clear. I set up my voicemail using their instructions as well.
If you are unsure about this device, I really can't understand the hesitation. It hurts me to hear my family members talk about $30, $40, and $50 monthly phone bills! I can't imagine paying that much. $200 for this unit and 15 minutes of setup. I see that there are talks about Ooma releasing a wireless unit. It is a good sign that they are continuing product development. As long as they stay in business, my house phone will be free :)
Love my ooma
I have been using my ooma for about a month now and absolutely love it. Installation was so easy, it only took about 20 min. I run a business out of my house and have been using ooma for both my home line and my business line. I also have a vacation house in another state and just installed one there. Between the three phone lines I had with long distance, I am saving $400 per month. Once I port my current numbers, I can save an additional $90 per month for a total of $490 per month.
The quality of the phone line is excellent. I can't say enough good things about ooma. It's incredibly easy to use and the money I'm saving in just unbelieavable.
