Customer Reviews

same problem as others had2
Like everyone else who complained about this product, I had it for about a year now and suddenly I could not access any data on it.

Symptom looked like: The drive made a clicking sound, Windows XP could see the drive when USB is plugged in, but could not access the data.

The chassis mechanicals were put together in an awkward manner, so it was not easy for me to take it apart. I finally took out the hard drive from inside, put it into my computer main chassis which has extra SATA drive bay and cables. Powered it up and saw that the operating system detected the drive and did a scan on it, fixed a file inconsistency error, and then booted into Windows XP.

Looks like all my data are still there. But the plastic chassis was sort of ruined when I opened it, so I'll keep it as an additional internal hard drive. If it had been easier to take the drive out then I could have still used it as an external. I am just glad that all the data appears to be still there.

A good drive for basic backup needs4
I use Apple's Time Machine with my MacBook Pro and find this drive to work just fine for that application. Upon first connection, Time Machine will reformat the drive to suit its needs. Otherwise, installation was seamless, simple, and the drive is working just fine since then. If you don't need Firewire support, then don't pay for it. This drive has a single USB 2.0 connection, and that's all I needed. So far, so good.

set it and forget it5
Phew! Now I don't worry about backups any more. Got this unit, installed it instantly, set my backup program instantly, and it has worked flawlessly, quietly, dependably. Love it.
