Customer Reviews
One great LCD TV for your money
Well folks, after looking at what seems like a thousand different HDTV's from 32" to 50", from Plasma to LCD, from 720P to 1080P, and after looking at reviews everywhere, I decided on this Vizio 47" LCD for one reason - PRICE. I have looked at many HDTV's and all of the LCD sets seem to be comparable in features that count. I ruled out Plasma because they are too fragile. The LCD's have a very good picture, fair sound without an additional sound system and about the same appearance. I am using a standard definition Dish Network system with this TV and the picture is quite acceptable. Depending on the channel I watch, the picture ranges from a little noisy to sharp and clear. It's not the TV - it's the quality of the signal on that particular channel. I purchased a Blue Ray player to see what the TV was really capable of doing and I was absolutely blown away with the quality of the picture. It is unbelievable almost like looking at a 35mm photo. I took a bunch of digital pictures with a FUJI 3.2 MP camera and burned them to a DVD slide show with music. I then watched them using the Blue Ray player and my Vizio 47" LCD and the picture quality again is close to 35 mm quality. I was planning on going to Dish Network's HD system but after seeing what this TV does with the standard signal, I am having second thoughts because the standard is pretty darn good! Also, the Blue Ray player does a great job of up converting my standard DVD movies to give a very acceptable and pleasing viewing of my standard DVD movies. I also found that most any up convert DVD player will give very good quality reproduction with this TV from a standard DVD movie. For my money, I believe this TV will run head to head with any of the others I have looked at and I have looked at a lot of them. I am now looking at slightly smaller Vizio for use in another room in my home. I would recommend this TV highly because it delivers a great picture, has a lot of nice features, has a good warranty, and won't break your budget. I really like mine and will buy another. I would recommend a good external sound system to greatly enhance the sound quality. I hooked up a $69 dollar PC audio system with a small sub-woofer to mine using a set of Radio Shack RCA adapter cables and the sound is great. Not 5.1 surround but not $300.00+ either!! Good luck on what ever you decide to purchase.
Worth Every Penny
No matter where I shop, I always check the Amazon Reviews first. I also check with CNET. Some professional reviews said that the blacks and gray-scale were off. Damned if I could see it. I went to a brick and mortar store a looked at lots of TVs. Everything from Sony to Samsung. If they take the name and price tag off this TV, you will not be able to tell the picture from a Sony, in fact, you might even like it more. Seeing the name and price will prejudice what you see. One thing this TV has that most of the others don't is an anti-glare screen, great when there are other sources of light around. Here was the bad. The batteries in the remote kept falling out until I stuffed a piece of tissue in the battery cover. The grammar on the box and instruction manual are clearly not perfect English. Besides that, it is a super TV.
Super Video
I've been watching this set for 4 months now and couldn't be happier. I sit about 6.5 feet from the center of the screen and it looks great. They say you need to be farther away, but no problem. I can stand a couple of feet from it still, no pixels are visible. Setup was a breeze. Four HDMI plug-ins make it easy to hook everything up.
Color is excellent. I have turned the backlight down to 10 and sharpness to +2, everything else is default. I view Dish HD and upsampled video on it, both look super. Nice blacks, no weird tint. Watch sports with no noticeable blur.
I love it.
