Customer Reviews

Good Drive5
When ever you read customer reviews of drives you will see two types. Those who couldn't get it to work and of course hate it, and those who got it to work and like it. I'm in the later. I bought it as I have an older Barracuda drive that's been working without issues for a couple of years now and needed more storage for media files. While Seagate is not Linux friendly it was easy to setup with my Mepis distro.

Big drive Big Problems1
Some years ago, about 10 years, i got a seagate drive, a medallist series hd with 1GB capacity (top of the line at that time); which died about two months after i first installed it on my computer. Now i bought this "big top of the line" hard disk on april 3rd and used it as a storage drive attached to an external usb case (never moved it from my desk) and now after just 1256 hours of use (around 53 days) it died. When i bought this drive last april, as a birthday gift for myself, i though that seagate had solved all the problems they had with those all drives they sold in the time the joined conner, but i see that i was wrong. The drives are having problems... i ran the seatools utility from seagete website and the tool tells that the drive has more than 99 errors and cant continue checking it. Now Windows is unable to access the drive and im afraid i lost about 600GB of that i had on it.

With this i want to tell you that you have to stay away from seagate drives, they really suck, these are the worst drives you can find around, I never had these problems with Western Digital, Maxtor or Hitachi Hard disks. So if you want to get a new hard drive go for even Western digital or Hitachi, and avoid seagate or maxtor (seagate bought them)

Now i have to send the disk back to seagate for replacement, the only good part here is that drive has 5 years warranty, but i would prefer a non faulty drive with just 6 months warranty (nobody wants to lose data)

Anyway, i would like to give Seagate and specially this drive a negative star (but i have to give them 1 star cause there are no negative)

Ohh i forgot to say if you want seagate to recover your data, you have to pay around 1400 bucks for the "service". Maybe they make their drives faulty to make you pay for the recovery.
