Emsa Perfect Beaker Measuring BeakerEmsa Perfect Beaker Measuring Beaker
Buy new: $6.95
Such a brilliant tool. As the surface area of a liquid increases, relatively large volume differences seem microscopic when viewed at the side. By narrowing the vessel at the bottom, it becomes easier to correctly determine smaller amounts of liquid. This is the liquid measuring device to end all liquid measuring devices.
Oxo Good Grips Stainless Steel 2-Cup Angled Measuring CupOxo Good Grips Stainless Steel 2-Cup Angled Measuring Cup
Buy new: $13.49
If the Emsa's so great, why buy this? Well, at some point you will need at least two liquid measuring cups anyway, and this one can go on the stove--really handy for things like melting gelatin. To be honest, I prefer Amco's version of this--their handle is uncoated, so I don't have to worry about it melting, and you can't beat Amco for their measuring device's accuracy and precision.

Ok, if you have the patience to carefully spatula out all the sticky peanut butter from a regular measuring cup, you don't need this device. However, it is excellent for quickly measuring all sorts of stickies.
Super Medicine Dropper By Apex Healthcare ProductsSuper Medicine Dropper By Apex Healthcare Products
Buy new: $1.24
For measuring out liquids by teaspoon or less, a calibrated medicine dropper is the best way to ensure you have the exact amount. For more than 1 teaspoon, you'll have to draw up more than once, but it's easily done.
Amco Advanced Performance Measuring SpoonsAmco Advanced Performance Measuring Spoons
Buy new: $9.99
I love the way the Amco Advanced Performance Spoons and cups feel in my hand, and they're constructed from one piece of steel, so there are no welds for little food particles or bacteria to get stuck in. The spoons come in 1 Tbs, 1 tsp, 1/2 tsp, and 1/4 tsp sizes. You can also buy an odd size set of 2 tsp, 1 1/2 tsp, 2/3 tsp, 1/8 tsp and pinch spoons.
Amco Advanced Performance Measuring Cup SetAmco Advanced Performance Measuring Cup Set
Buy new: $20.00
These cups have an excellent 1/2 way mark on the cup interior, which makes it stupidly easy to halve a recipe or to find something like 1/8th or 1/6th a cup. This set has 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup, and 1/4 cup sizes. You can also find an odd size set of 1 3/4 cup, 1 1/2 cup, and 3/4 cup sizes.

Measuring by volume is great, but for true accuracy you'll need to measure by mass with a scale. Things like flour compress when measured by volume, which can make a world of difference in baking. The scale can also be great in terms of portion control and such.
Polder Original Cooking Timer and ThermometerPolder Original Cooking Timer and Thermometer
Buy new: $25.00 / Used from: $19.99
I have no idea what I ever did without my probe thermometer. This is the original, and still one of the best. There are other models today with a beeper you can carry with you, so that you'll always be able to hear the timer, no matter where you are in the home. They're much more expensive, though.
Taylor High-Temperature Instant-Read Pocket ThermometerTaylor High-Temperature Instant-Read Pocket Thermometer
Buy new: $18.29
To be honest, the probe thermometer will do everything this one does. In fact, the probe can go in the oven, so it's better. However, for little jobs, you probably wont want to mess with the cord.
Taylor Classic Candy and Deep-Fry Analog ThermometerTaylor Classic Candy and Deep-Fry Analog Thermometer
Buy new: $9.60
Digital Candy and Deep Fry thermometers are available, but most are pretty top heavy, and you don't want it to splash into a pan of 300+ degree oil or sugar! This one will also never need batteries.
Taylor Oven Guide ThermometerTaylor Oven Guide Thermometer
Buy new: $12.27
You know your oven's temperature dial? Chances are it's incorrect. If you want to know what the real temperature is, you need one of these. Get one for every oven you have.
Taylor Gourmet Refrigerator Thermometer - Stainless Steel/CopperTaylor Gourmet Refrigerator Thermometer - Stainless Steel/Copper
Buy new: $9.99
Why can't you use an oven thermometer to take your refrigerator's temperature? Because an oven thermometer doesn't go anywhere near 32˚F. They take high temperatures, not low. You may want to consider one of these for the fridge and another for the freezer.

I really only reach for my large ruler a few times a year, but every time I do I'm glad I've got it.
Polder Digital Timer with Vibrating, Audible, and Illuminated AlarmPolder Digital Timer with Vibrating, Audible, and Illuminated Alarm
Buy new: $14.95
Even if your stove or oven has a timer function, there will come a day when you will need to time multiple things and not have the energy to do the math. I have two or three of these. The multiple alarm settings are great for when you don't want to disturb others.
