Editorial Reviews
From the Manufacturer
Your dream player with flawless, true-to-life picture quality and the ability to play virtually any disc. The Philips DVD player delivers your movies and music entertainment experience. The DVP3140 features ultra-slim design that fits anywhere, high-quality outputs for analog and digital audio, and plays CD, (S)VCD, DVD, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW discs.
12-bit, 108 MHz Video Processing for Sharp, Natural Images
The DVP3140's 12-bit video DAC is a superior digital-to-analog converter that preserves every detail of the authentic picture quality. It shows subtle shades and smoother graduation of colors, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture. The limitation of the usual 10-bit digital-to-analog converter becomes particularly apparent while using large screens and projectors.
192 kHz, 24-bit Audio Digital-to-Analog Converter Enhances Analog Sound Input
192 kHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analog sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction.
Progressive Scan Component Video for Optimized Image Quality
Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.
DivX for Standard Playback of All DivX Media Files
With DivX support, you are able to enjoy DivX encoded videos in the comfort of your living room. The DivX media format is an MPEG4-based video compression technology that enables you to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R/RW, and DVD recordable discs.
Plays DivX, MP3, WMA and JPEG Digital Camera Photos
Multi-format playability allows you to play most file formats for maximum listening and viewing pleasure, including MP3, WMA, JPEG and the popular DivX digital media format. DivX playback enables you to play and share compressed high quality DivX video content beyond your computer.

Customer Reviews
Pretty great for the price.
It does what I wanted it to so I'm happy with it. I wanted a DVD player that would play .avi files and could not find a single one that I could actually afford. I tried my luck with this and it plays them! The only reason I'm giving it four stars is because it will occasionally take a couple of opening and closing the drawer for a burned DVD to load.
A good value
Received this new DVD player yesterday and used it to watch a movie last night. It sets up easily and give good picture and sound. It seems to be a good value from a brand name consumers can trust.
Minor cons: a bit noisy when you turn it on and load a DVD, but the noise subsides once it is playing. In any event, this shouldn't be a dealbreaker if you want a quality player and a decent price.
Flawless installation and performance
Pulled it out of the box, plugged it to the power and the TV, and that's it. All the features one needs, great picture, great sound. Looks good, too.
