Perfect for users who need backup, storage and large-volume exchange for office files, photos, music and even video clips, the Rugged All-Terrain is powered by the FireWire or USB connection, which means that it uses the power of the connected computer to operate and doesn't require an additional AC adapter or power cord.

The Rugged All-Terrain offers the triple-interface convenience of high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity (which is USB 1.1 backward compatible) along with both FireWire 400 and FireWire 800 interfaces. With this triple-interface functionality, along with the drive's driver-free and plug-and-play features, exchanging data between Macs and PCs is as easy as it gets. The Rugged All-Terrain even comes with a USB power-sharing cable for low powered USB hubs/computers. (The Rugged All-Terrain requires no extra drivers for Windows XP/2000/Vista and Mac OS X operating systems.)

DO NOT buy from Amazon
All I can say is that i will never buy any sensitive electronics from Amazon again: The hard drive arrived in a box that I think could have easily fit about 20 identical harddrives. It had almost no padding. If you moved the box around, the hard drive rattled inside. I called Amazon to complain, and they sent me a replacement which was *identically packaged*.
I will not use a hard drive that was "beaten up" all the way to my doorstep. I am afraid it will break down on me 3 weeks later. I went to a local store and paid a few extra dollars to get the same harddrive. Amazon refunded my money after i sent both harddrives back. The bottom line: I wasted valuable time y using Amazon.

So far so good. Very small size. No problem backing up with my mac. Hopefully it will continue.

Simply "the best".
I am user of mac G4 Powerbook, before I tried several HD's such as WD's. It was not even posibble to connect my WD because of G4's low usb power. Lacie 250 GB with firewire is exelent product for any kind of computer.
Also you can divide 30 GB for Pc use. Perfect.
