Perfect for users who need backup, storage and large-volume exchange for office files, photos, music and even video clips, the Rugged All-Terrain is USB bus-powered, which means that it uses the power of the connected computer to operate and doesn't require an additional AC adapter or power cord.
The Rugged All-Terrain offers the cross-platform convenience of high-speed USB 2.0 interface and is USB 1.1 backward compatible. With its driver-free and plug-and-play functionality, exchanging data between Macs and PCs is as easy as it gets--simply plug it into any computer with a USB port and you're ready to go. (The Rugged All-Terrain requires no extra drivers for Windows XP/2000/Vista and Mac OS X operating systems.) It even comes with a power-sharing cable for low-powered USB hubs and computers.
The drive features a spin speed of 5400 rpm, an 8 MB cache, and a transfer rate of up to up to 480 Mbits per second. In fact, the drive is designed to withstand vertical drops of up to 35 inches while in non-operating mode. (Dropping the drive while it's in operation, however, could cause damage, so be careful!)
For additional styling points, the Rugged All-Terrain can be outfitted with additional colorful bumpers that will keep your drive protected. Easy-to-change and durable once on, they are made of the same quality rubber as the original bright orange Rugged sleeve. The optional set of three additional bumpers, which is sold seperately, includes green-grey, blue-grey and black bumpers.

Fun and functional-fashionable backup drive works great
I bought this because I have a 150 gig LaCie drive that works great and never gives me problems. I needed more space so I went with the same brand and for the one with the rubber bumpers because I am rough on equipment. I used the 1 click backup software and did not have a single problem. It took over an hour to back up my 100 GB's of data from my laptop but it was so much easier than clicking and dragging each folder, which works faster but is a pain. One click and go watch a movie once a month! I've used it about 15 times to back up some movies, etc since the main backup and have not had a problem. Buy this one.
LaCie Portable Drive
The LaCie Rugged All Terrain Portable Drive is a great value. I have seen it advertised in computer magazines for $30 more. It is easy to carry and simple to use. Connect, and it works like magic. I use it with Time Machine with my MacBook Pro. It is the easiest portable drive that I have!
Wrongly partitioned
Very disappointed. The hard drive only enable 9.99... not even 1G. I have to take them to an IT to check them for me.
All he said was "Somebody did not do the write job"
Now it has enable 232G remaining capacity after he did his IT job with it.
Please check items before sealing them. It can be frustrating.
They were received in very good condition. I wanted to order more different colors, beautiful, unless you improve, I will then proceed with more orders.
