Customer Reviews
As good as a Montblanc?
I got this pen when I found out how much it would cost to replace my Montblanc Diplomat. Although I haven't finished breaking it in (shaping the nib to my hand)I have been impressed. The medium nib line looks great and (unlike my Montblanc) it doesn't leak. I use the adapter with Cross ink, which incidentally is identical to the more expensive Penguin branded ink, even to the raised lettering on the bottom of the bottle.
Great pen for a great price
This pen is a marvelous looking pen. The gold trim is flawless and is very bright right out of the box. I've only used the ink cartridges at this point, however the Cross ink starts up very quickly, (in the first 30 seconds) and flows very well. The line is very consistent, probably on the order of a V7 Uni-ball (.7mm) if you've ever used one. I would say that it's a bit thick to be writing in cursive on college-ruled paper. My only problem so far is that the resistance to replacing the cap seems to have reduced over 100 or so insertions. The pen body has actually fallen out of the pen cap once when I was getting out of a car, which meant the pen body hit the cement. Luckily the gold plating is strong and the marks from the asphalt are very minimal and require close imspection to detect. Overall, the $50 I spent on this pen was well worth it.
close but no cigar
This pen has the form, but not the quality function of a better model. The ink line is too full and a bit gloppy going on, and a thinner line nib is not available. If I had it to do again, I would have passed on this and applied the $50 to a better device.
