A tight fit, but amazing performace!
I bought this after returning a Thermaltake Orb II that was too big to fit in my computer. This being my first home build and that being my only major mishap I felt quite satisfied when I chose this as my replacement. Not only does it keep my CPU running in the mid 20s when idle, it has never once reached above 42C with a full load. I have a Core 2 Duo, which runs a bit cooler than say a Pentium 4, but to have a CPU run that low is almost unheard of. That's cooling right there!!! From reading other people's sucesses (and failures) with other various cooling products I feel like I invested wisely.
Installation was a bit of a chore, but if you follow the instructions carefully and take your time it shouldn't be a problem. I'd recommend a good thermal grease like Arctic Silver 5, or something comparable. The stock grease that comes with most CPUs isn't bad, but for $5 you can get something that is twice as good. Also watch out for the fins, they're sharp and will cut you if you let them. It is a bit noisy when turned up all the way, but it's nice to be able to move a lot of heat when you need to. I run at less than half speed almost all the time and at that speed my case fan is louder than that by far. LEDs are a nice touch, makes my case look sweet! Highly recommended and this has sold me on the Zalman brand, quality parts and unique design all in great products.
Other thoughts:
When I overclock my CPU it idles in the mid-low 30s and with a full load it has yet to reach 50C, which is more than I was ever expecting. Normally a big fear with overclocking a big fear is overheating, but wth this cooler the only thing holding me back from higher speeds is my ram can't handle it.
Nice and cool looking
Mounting time, half hour from the moment I took the motherboard out of the case and started reading the manual. very easy and very secure.
i didn't use the control thing that came with it, just simply connected the cable directly to the motherboard CPU FAN connector, and its speed is being automatically controlled by the computer's BIOS.
very silent and very nice looking, the fins are very very thin (0.2mm!!) you can get your self cut easily, or badly bend them, must handle and mount the fan with care.
CPU temprature dropped 4 degrees on idle state and 7 degrees on heavy load, you may say not much of a difference from the original intel that I had, but I have the Thermaltake Armor+ Case with 5 140mm fans and one 125mm fan, so there is already excellent cold airflow inside the case, to be hoenst, I was surprised that the temprature difference was this much, i was thinking i might get 2 or 3 degrees difference only.
Excellent Cpu Cooler
excellent simply excellent, my processor is kept on 67 Degrees, now under up to 40 degrees, is a good product we recommend
