Customer Reviews

read this before making a decision!5
I didn't buy this item but I wanted to leave this for people to see:

If you read the title properly you will notice this item is "without Life Essentials #LGSBPK01." I considered buying this but wanted to know why it was so discounted (and what the complaints were about) so I investigated. All you have to do is READ the actual title of the item and you'll understand why this particular product is "missing" all of the items the other reviewers say are not there.

Despite Initial Problem, Kit is what it says4
OK, let me get the problems out of the way first.

Like many people, my kit was also missing the Life Essentials pack. What did I do? I emailed LifeGear. They wrote me back within a couple of hours, apologized, and then proceeded to send me not only the Life Essentials pack, but an extra flashing emergency light and another crank radio. I received them about 3 days later. I also got another email from them asking if they arrived and if they could do anything else for me. Problem solved.

Some have complained about the compass. It's nothing to write home about. I agree. Personally, I always have a couple of compasses and would never rely solely on something that came as part of a kit. It is a back up at best. Still, it could have been better.

Finally, the next big complaint seems to be that a person could put together a comparable or even better kit by themselves piece by piece and even save some money. OF COURSE YOU COULD! Did you not look to see what was included in the kit before you bought this? Did you not do a little checking and find out that you could, indeed, make your own for cheaper? How on earth someone could rate down the product for including what it says it includes for the price listed. You knew this going in. You either knew this ahead of time and still bought it, in which case, why are you complaining? Or you didn't bother to look into the product descriptions before you bought it, in which case, duh.

Oh well. I am giving it four stars. It might have been three stars had I not received such great service after the purchase, but maybe still four. The backpack itself it pretty nice. A good size with room for quite a bit. It is sturdy and comfortable enough. The items inside are better than in some kits I have seen and worse than a couple. For the most part, however, prebuilt kits do not boast the highest quality items (and a little search on google reveals this).

Again, yes, you can put one of these together yourself and save some money. But don't discount the value of simply getting SOMETHING. I actually bought this as a supplemental kit that I needed in a hurry and one that I didn't want to spend time putting together. I swapped a few items out and might add a few more. But ultimately, complain about the missing stuff (though you could just email them and probably get it fixed), complain about the quality of some item in the kit (but don't expect great quality in a prebuilt kit), but don't complain that the kit came with what it said it would come with and cost what it said it would cost.

Did not have anything promised!!1
I ordered this before reading the other reviews. After I read them I was tempted to cancel, but decided to chance it as I've never had any problems with Amazon before. My item arrived today and the ONLY item promised on the description page that was included was the whistle/compass/thermometer. And the compass did not work at all. I'm returning this tomorrow. I'd recommend purchasing a different product or from a different source.
