Maximize the performance of your optical mouse. Great for business professionals and gamers that prefer a comfy mouse pad surface, the XTracPads Pro HS (Hard Surface) measures 8" x 11" and features the same slick and smooth surface found on the Hammer and Zoom, but underneath you'll find a 3/32" thick soft rubber backing. This innovative mouse pad features a hard, fast-gliding, slightly textured surface and a special Sure Grip rubber backing. Each pad is designed with a hexagonal pattern of cells with a random dot pattern inside to minimize cursor fade and jitter.

Not perfect but certainly an improvement.4
I'm not an expert in optical mice, but I have noticed the "mouse freak-out" problem for months and I thought there was nothing that could be done about it. Then I noticed how stained and grundgy my eight year old mousepad was and decided it was time for a replacement. I went shopping for mouse pads and found this one whose creators claim is optimized for optical mice.

Well, that would kill two birds with one stone, I thought. I bought it, and it looks cool and it matches my Microsoft optical mouse and my computer and my keyboard, and it stays glued to my desk. However, my mouse still does the old freak-out and occasionally the pointer jumps across the screen. I do think it may be happening less often, however.

So, the mouse still freaks out, but I have a very cool and easy to use color coordinated mousepad. Certainly a step in the right direction, and I didn't exactly have to mortgage the farm to buy it.

Postscript: I've concluded after a few weeks of use that my mouse (pointer) doesn't "freak out" and jump around the screen any less often than it did before. So, the primary purpose of this product is lost on me.

It's very good4
I use a Logitech Cordless Click! Plus mouse, and I was surprised to see -- having been a phone-support tech in the early days of optical mice and recalling the issues people had with patterned mousepads and optical technology -- that the patterning on this one was subtle enough not to cause coordinate jumps or pointer-going-missing problems as had often been the case in those early days. I'd read a customer review here that made some mention of the pad's tendency to slip and shift occasionally; so far it has done neither with me. I recommend it for anyone looking to get beyond the pressed-felt-on-rubber kind of mousepad when they "graduate" to optical mice.

And the price is perfect as well.

Good pad for a good price4
This mouse pad is actually a lot better than I expected. It has a smooth, but slightly textured surface for the mouse to glide on, which it does. I'm not sure if the printed graphic pattern actually makes a difference or not, but it definitely looks better than your average pad. The only reasons I didn't give it five stars are because the plastic surface has started to peel off the corner closest to my keyboard (which may actually be the fault of my keyboard, since I usually have the two butted right up against one another), and every now and then I have to adjust the position of the pad (it doesn't slide out of place, but instead you will notice that it moves a few millimeters out of place at a time, and so after a while you will need to re-adjust its position).
