The Joshua TreeThe Joshua Tree by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.58
#1)The CD that blew them through the roof. I will date myself and say that I remember buying the album. Everyone knows the first few songs, but give side two a listen (track 5 onward for the CD generation!) Great stuff, especially "Red Hill Mining Town," and "One Tree Hill."
Achtung BabyAchtung Baby by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.41
#2)More diverse than "Joshua Tree" showing the band changing their sound to keep up with the changing times. I don't feel that it is good from front to back as "Tree" is, but "One" might go down as the U2's best single.
The Unforgettable FireThe Unforgettable Fire by U2
Buy new: $7.97 / Used from: $1.40
#3) This is where the foundation was laid for what would happen in the next 10 years. The energy of the early albums meet budding musicianship. "Pride" is my favorite U2 song and "A sort of homecoming" is also very high up. "Bad" is one of the best songs played live from any band.
All That You Can't Leave BehindAll That You Can't Leave Behind by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.68
#4) Just when maybe the general public thought that U2 might be on the waning side of their careers, here comes this CD. A breath of fresh air.
Under a Blood Red SkyUnder a Blood Red Sky by U2
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $0.19
#5) One of the better live albums made, I only wish it was about thirty minutes longer! Not only is there the standards like "Sunday Bloody Sunday" but you also get gems like "Party Girl" and the seminal concert closer "40"
WarWar by U2
Buy used from: $0.01
#6) If you were attending college in the mid-eightees you couldn't go from one floor of the dorm to the next without hearing this album pounding from someones room. A staple of what was then..."college radio."
How to Dismantle an Atomic BombHow to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb by U2
Buy new: $10.97 / Used from: $0.90
#7) Takes the energy breathed back into the band from "All that you can't leave behind" and keeps it moving. Showing the band changing with the times yet again. "Vertigo" was being sung or hummed by seemingly everyone for the month or so after it broke.
ZooropaZooropa by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.01
#8) This is a CD that I think many people forget about because there was no huge chart busting single on it. Give it another listen, one of their strongest from top to bottom and I think one of their most adventurous.
OctoberOctober by U2
Buy used from: $0.49
#9) The first dabblings of changing the sound beyond just the roaring guitar. This is the root for the tree that would become "The Unforgettable Fire."
BoyBoy by U2
Buy used from: $1.49
#10) This is the one CD that I wish I would have been exposed to when it first broke, but growing up in small town America, I had to kind of come back to it after becoming hooked by "War."
PopPop by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.01
#11) If you see interviews with the band, this is the one that most of them say that they wish there could be a "do over" for. They say that it was rushed because of the impending tour. Others say that it was a direction they should not have went in to begin with. I think there are some high points...just underrealized as a whole.
Wide Awake in AmericaWide Awake in America by U2
Buy new: $8.97 / Used from: $0.99
#12) I don't know why there hasn't been more live stuff released. This one is kind of cheating because the few songs that are on it, but the ones that are have never sounded better. I feel that this is best version of "Bad" out there.
Rattle and HumRattle and Hum by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.61
#13) Some nice moments here and there but as a whole the thing is a mess. I wish that it would have been released as two different discs. A mini EP or something with new stuff like "Angel of Harlem" and "Desire" and then another album with just live stuff, especially some of the B-sides. The live version of "Silver and Gold," is excellent.
