The U2 Collection
By an Amazon.com customer
BoyBoy by U2
Buy used from: $0.85
This is U2's first album. Compared to the bands later material, the songs found here are feel very energetic and fresh. There is no real duds on this album, although it isn't quite as strong as some of their other CDs. But overall, definitely worth seeking out! Standout tracks: Out Of Control, I Will Follow, The Electric Co.
OctoberOctober by U2
Buy used from: $1.49
October is probably the bands weakest album, and certainly their least celebrated. While the standout tracks are strong, the rest of the CD is quite forgettable. If you can afford to miss skip one U2 CD, I'd nominate this one. Standout tracks: Gloria, Fire, I Fall Down
WarWar by U2
Buy used from: $0.37
Now THIS is more like it! With a gritty, rocking sound, the band doesn't pull any punches as they deliver strong messages about the effects of war across the world. Sunday Bloody Sunday became something of an anthem to the band, however the rest of the CD is simply too good to be ignored. Highly recommended! Standout tracks: New Years Day, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Seconds, "40"
The Unforgettable FireThe Unforgettable Fire by U2
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $1.84
This album truly is a diamond in the rough. It is a murky album, yet it flows like a river... while War was a roaring album, this CD is more of a whisperer (with the glaring exception of Pride). This album is much loved by me, but be warned: it isn't for everyone, as some songs are not as accessible as others. Standout tracks: Pride (In The Name Of Love), The Unforgettable Fire, Bad, MLK
Joshua TreeJoshua Tree by U2
Buy new: $10.97 / Used from: $4.24
What many people consider to be the bands magnum opus, Joshua Tree has many much loved singles, and collaborates many styles of music to form a masterpiece. This album is diverse, thought provoking and, above all else, passionate. I don't think it is U2's best CD, but it's up there! Standout tracks: With Or Without You, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Bullet The Blue Sky
Rattle and HumRattle and Hum by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.10
This album is a difficult one, to say the least. While there is some great stuff on this, it feels more like a collaboration than an actual CD. U2 attempt to incorporate blues and soul into their music, and it works... for the most part. Maybe try this one out if you like the standout tracks. Standout tracks: Desire, All I Want Is You, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Achtung BabyAchtung Baby by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.05
After receiving mixed reviews for Rattle and Hum, U2 attempted to reinvent themselves, and boy, they succeeded! This album is practically buzzing; U2 dove headfirst into a completely new musical style, with amazing results. The song writing found here is better than what you'd find in most of their work. Their finest album! Standout tracks: One, The Fly, Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
ZooropaZooropa by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.47
If people thought that U2 lost the plot with Achtung Baby, this CD will convince them! This silky album is bubbling with bizarre songs about the media having taken over our lives. This album highly underrated, and is a great sister album to Achtung Baby. Well worthy of investigation. Standout tracks: Stay (Faraway, So Close!), Babyface, Zooropa
PopPop by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.25
Pop is an extremely difficult piece of work. This raw album, on the surface of things, is U2's attempt to mix rock with dance. On closer inspection, however, the songs are an individual struggling to cling onto their religion. It's a passionate CD with some great songs, but it cannot be denied that it is hard to listen to at points. Standout tracks: Gone, Staring At The Sun, Please
All That You Can't Leave BehindAll That You Can't Leave Behind by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.03
With this album, U2 attempt to win back some fans by creating a more agreeable, catchy and overall pleasant album. With sweeping, soaring songs like Beautiful Day, they certainly succeeded! The standout tracks are amazing, and the song writing, more beautiful and love-orientated than ever. Standout tracks: Walk On (my favourite U2 song), Beautiful Day, Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
How to Dismantle an Atomic BombHow to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $0.79
The bands newest album, with the heart hitting rocking guitars of old, mixed with the passionate song writing found on the previous album. I believe this album was a triumph; although it does not flow well, the songs are truly fantastic. I can't wait to see where they go from here! Standout tracks: Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, All Because Of You, Yahweh
The Best of 1980-1990The Best of 1980-1990 by U2
Buy new: $9.97 / Used from: $3.65
This isn't an album, but I had to mention it anyway, as it is a simply fantastic compilation CD. The songs have been chosen and ordered with care, making for a great starting point for new U2 fans. I have a copy of this despite owning all the albums. A sound investment! Standout tracks: All of the songs are great, although 'Sweetest Thing' was not released on an album, and is worth seeking out!
